BELGRADE SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic "played a major role in the worsening of relations between the Democratic Party and the Liberal Democratic Party," writes a daily. This "all the more reinforces the dominance of the SNS," the Belgrade-based Danas newspaper quoted analysts as saying. Vucic's "major role" in driving wedge between LDP and DS Transparency Serbia President Vladimir Goati does not see a serious cause for conflict between the two opposition parties, "as in the legal sense, it would have been surprising had the LDP entered the interim council of Belgrade." He added that the major reason for their differences lies instead in their unsuccessful effort to cooperate closely. "The approaching of the SNS, as the strongest of the ruling parties, to the LDP is a permitted and logical strategy to deepen the divide within the opposition. Aleksandar Vucic played a permissible and democratic game - to separate the DS from its potential logistical and electoral support. They (SNS) have, if this is the case, clearly won," said Goati. Program Director of CeSiD Djordje Vukovic believes that the Progressives are playing "the discord card" in trying to get the opposition to quarrel amongst themselves. "The aggravation of relations between the DS and the LDP is the result of the dominance of the Progressives, and the opposition goes by the logic - better to be on good terms with the SNS than to join forces against them. Currently, the DS and the LDP cannot collectively create an alternative to the dominant SNS. This will only be possible when the Progressives, due to the mistakes of the government and the objective the economic crisis, become less popular," said Vukovic.
