NIS A police officer who sustained serious injuries on Monday, on a side road near Bujanovac, died on Wednesday. The Clinical Center in Nis announced that the 44-year-old passed away despite the efforts of its medical staff. Policeman injured in southern Serbia dies The policeman was admitted to the clinic on Monday evening with life threatening injuries to his head and chest. The officer was hit by a car that he tried to stop. The vehicle was suspected of transporting drugs. The driver of the car fled the scene and escaped in the direction of the village of Veliki Trnovac. The Police Trade Union of Serbia issued a statement signed by the organization's president, Veljko Mijailovic, expressing their deepest condolences to the family of the officer, Goran Djordjevic, and added: "In this difficult moment all of us police officers and all citizens of Serbia commiserate with your pain. It is time for the state to at last do something about the mafia hotbed in Veliki Trnovac. Crime has no borders, or nationality. If suspicions that the killer had escaped to Kosovo are confirmed, we expect the authorities of Kosovo, the police there, and EULEX to do everything in order to find, detain and deliver him to the Serbian judicial organs."
