BELGRADE In the first eight months of 2013, Serbia's largest trading partner was Italy, to which goods worth around USD 1.5 billion were exported. At the same time imports from Italy amounted to USD 1.52 billion, the Serbian Statistical Office (RZS) data has shown. Italy still Serbia's main trading partner As regards exports, Serbia's main trading partners were, after Italy, Germany with USD 1.12 billion, and Bosnia-Herzegovina with USD 740.4 million, the Russian Federation with USD 682.6 million and Montenegro USD 563 million. In terms of imports, Italy was followed by Germany with USD 1.46 billion, and the Russian Federation with USD 1.1 billion, then China - USD 967.9 million and Hungary- USD 653.1 million. The busiest trade was realized with the countries with which Serbia had signed the free trade agreements. The EU member states accounted for 62.9 percent of the total trade. Serbia's second-ranked partners are signatories to the CEFTA agreement, with which the country had a surplus of USD 1.1 billion, which is mostly a result of the exports of agricultural produce, as well as various final products. Since July this year, Croatia has been a new member of the European Union, while at the same time it ceased to be a CEFTA member, and that had an effect on the trading results with those groups, the RZS noted. If one is to consider Serbia's trade with individual states, the highest surplus was registered with former Yugoslav republics - Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia. As for other countries, Serbia had a notable surplus with Romania, the United States and Ukraine. The biggest deficit was recorded in trade with China due to imports of mobile phones and laptops, Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation because of imports of energy-generating products, primarily oil and gas, followed by the deficit with Poland, Hungary and Germany.
