Court sentences killers of policeman to 40 years

BELGRADE Two bank robbers accused of shooting and killing a police officer have been found guilty and handed down 40-year prison sentences. A court in Belgrade announced on Thursday that Igor Kahvedzic (24) and Borislav Delic (34) received maximum sentences for the murder of on duty policeman Slobodan Cvetic during a botched robbery of a Komercijalna Bank branch in Belgrade in October 2011. Cvetic and another police officer, Miodrag Filipovic, along with a bank client, Bojan Gajic, attempted to stop the robbers, but the pair opened fire and wounded Gajic. When Cvetic came to the civilian's rescue, the robbers shot and wounded both him and his colleague. Cvetic died of his injuries several days later, while Filipovic and Gajic recovered.
