BELGRADE Mladjan Dinkic says he "does not feel guilty about the National Savings Bank affair" and claims the responsibility lies with then Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic. Dinkic, who until recently served as finance and economy minister and is the leader of the URS party, told the tabloid Informer that Djelic had the right to exercise discretion in deciding whether the state would retain a majority share of ownership in the bank. Dinkic points finger at former minister "The proportion of state ownership in banks, by law, is the concern only of finance ministers. Then assistant to Djelic Budimir Loncar, on behalf of the state, voted in favor of added capitalization of Nacionalna Stedionica (National Savings) but the Ministry of Finance later failed to invest money and in that way effectively relinquished a state bank to private owners," said Dinkic. According to him, it was through this decision made by Djelic that the state permanently lost majority ownership in the bank. "I absolutely do not bear any formal or moral responsibility, since we warned the then minister of finance repeatedly of the possible consequences. But obviously it was not in his interest to prevent it," said Dinkic. Asked whether he expected "to be arrested by the New Year, as speculated," he replied: "On the contrary! I have faith in the rule of law and expect full rehabilitation and a big apology from everyone who has been, completely unjustifiably, smearing my name for years related to this case, where there is not a milligram of my responsibility. " Dinkic also commented on the fact that two days ago he was summoned to the police to make a statement about the National Savings Bank. "I am grateful to them for allowing me to extend the time that I needed to clarify in detail all the dilemmas. They suggested a break, but I insisted that the hearing be extended. After 12 years finally I had the opportunity to tell the truth to the state authorities. I was prepared to stay there all night if necessary," said Dinkic, and added that he was "glad he was listened to, to the end." Dinkic declined to comment on the allegations made by Dusan Antonica that he was responsible for the destruction of Agrobanka, saying he had "nothing to do with that bank." (Beta, file) Tanjug
