NEW YORK Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New York, where they are attending the UN Nations General Assembly. Mrkic said that he and Lavrov spoke about progress in the preparations for the upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Serbia. Serbian FM meets with his Russian counterpart in New York “We are trying to make sure the preparations go smoothly so that, hopefully, the visit may take place before the end of this year,” Mrkic added. The main topic of our meeting was Kosovo and Metohija, Mrkic told Tanjug. Yesterday, the Serbian foreign minister discussed KiM with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, who confirmed that Oman it will stick to its official position not to recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo. Oman has a principled stance not to side with anybody as long as the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is underway, said Mrkic. Today, Mrkic also met with the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, William Hague and Croatia, Vesna Pusic. Mrkic said he also "had a brief meeting with minister of foreign affairs of Kosovo, Enver Hodzaj, to whom he presented the problems concerning the organization of the upcoming local elections in Kosovo. The Serbian foreign minister said that he drew Hodzaj’s attention to those views held by Pristina that are preventing the local elections to be implemented in accordance with the April 19 Brussels agreement, adding that the topic was "yet to be debated in full to ensure the local elections are completely in line with that which has been agreed upon."
