BELGRADE Belgrade will likely choose a new city government in March, the daily Danas is reporting it learned from several sources. The newspaper says there is a serious possibility that elections for the Assembly of Belgrade will be held along with early parliamentary elections. Councilors discuss removing mayor from office SNS Belgrade branch head Nebojsa Stefanovic spoke after top party officials met on Monday to say said that the SNS believes that it had secured a majority for a vote of no confidence to Mayor Dragan Djilas. Belgrade City Assembly members will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss the motion for Djilas' dismissal filed by the SNS and the DSS. Beta reported on Tuesday that the Pensioner Party, PUPS, decided to vote in favor of his removal from office. PM and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dacic announced earlier its support for the initiative, saying the reason was "the fact that the Socialist Party kept the DS in power in Belgrade," while Djilas "did not fail to praise Aleksandar Vucic and PUPS, and criticize me as prime minister." Asked by B92 who the new mayor will be, and whether a new local government will be formed, or new elections will follow, Dacic said he had not held any conversation on the subject, and "did not wish to talk about that ." Meanwhile, Danas is quoting its sources who said that elections in March could happen in two ways. The City Assembly could elect a new mayor with a "limited mandate" of six months, after which elections would be held. Another option is to vote to remove Djilas out of office, but for him to continue working for another month. During that time, a new mayor would not be elected. An interim administration would be introduced instead whose mandate would be timed to expire to allow for elections to be held in March. (Tanjug) B92 Beta Danas
