BELGRADE Whether the Belgrade Pride Parade will be held this year will depend on security assessments that the police are yet to make. This is according to the event's Organizing Committee. Still unclear if Belgrade gay parade will be held The committee stated that a meeting held with representatives of the police on their intention to organize the gay parade on September 28 "has not received a clear answer to the question whether the walk will be banned." At the meeting held earlier this week, there was talk about the measures taken by the police in order to fully ensure the safety of all participants in Belgrade Pride 2013. It was also stressed that the police were doing "absolutely everything so that the scheduled walk goes well," the statement said. Representatives of the police and the committee "stated jointly that cooperation in the prosecution of those who threaten the parade's participants is satisfactory, but police officials stressed that the security assessment was yet to be made." "At the same time, the delegation of the Ministry of the Interior was unable to provide clear assurances to the Organizing Committee whether the walk would be banned again," the statement said. It is also said in the release that according to the police, the decision will once again depend on security assessment. The Organizing Committee said that it was "this time as well expressing its satisfaction over the fact that there is open communication with the police," and that the meetings immediately before the holding of the parade were "intensive." "We believe that it is totally unacceptable that, despite the decision of the Constitutional Court of Serbia and clear practice of the European Court of Human Rights, the police believe that banning of the Pride could be an option instead of clear preventive work to improve safety during its holding," the statement said.
