BELGRADE Serbia is not in recession, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated on Monday. According to him, industrial growth and exports increase is being recorded although the country has a high public debt and major losses in public companies. Deputy PM says "Serbia is not in recession" At a parliament session on the appointment of new government members, Vucic said that the growth of unemployment has been stopped for the first time after five years and that although over 750,000 people are jobless, it is positive that the figure is not increasing further and that the horrible tendency has been interrupted. Replying to the call of the independent MP Nikola Tulimirovic for Vucic to assess the work of the National Employment Service, the deputy prime minister said that the Service is more of a higher technical body than an institution which can considerably help in the search for jobs. The government spends around EUR 100-150 million on incentives for employment and this policy should continue being conducted, Vucic said and added that Serbia also needs a better investment climate in order to attract foreign investors.
