BELGRADE Presidency of the opposition DSS party has called on the Serb people in Kosovo not to vote in the local elections there scheduled for November 3. The party led by former Yugoslav president and Serbian PM Vojislav Kostunica said that "the votes will be deciding about which country they will belong to." DSS calls on Serbs to boycott local elections in Kosovo According to a release from the DSS, the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija should show unity and a firm position about their being part of Serbia and show that they will never take part in any elections by which “the fake state of Kosovo” is recognized. “Only elections called by the Serbian parliament have the legal power and legitimacy needed and the Serb people will vote only in such elections,” the release says. The DSS presidency strongly condemned the Serbian government for pressurizing the Serbs in KiM to go to the polls. “Every Serb should know that November 3 is a day when a fateful decision will be made about which country the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija will belong to,” according to the release. DSS MP Sanda Raskovic-Ivic once again stated this position in parliament on Friday, when she said the voting would give legitimacy to the so-called state of Kosovo. "Those who are calling on Serbs to turn out and vote are making a mistake, because those people will be left without a country and without jobs, when all that has been finished," she told reporters, and noted that there was "strong pressure" on the Serbs to take part in the elections.
