BELGRADE - Representatives of the Association of Banat Farmers organized a protest in front of the Serbian government's building on Monday. The association members are dissatisfied with a low purchase price of wheat - RSD 16 per one kilo, stressing that the production cost stands at RSD 20 while subsidies are running late. Farmers end protest in front of government building The farmers are asking for production subsidies to be paid off right away, adding that the second subsidized purchase of oil, which they are to pay RSD 150 per liter, should be paid RSD 100 per liter right away, and not as it has been the case so far they pay it RSD 150 and then the government returns them RSD 50. They are also requesting from the government to react on time so that sunflower, soy and other autumn crops would not be purchased for less than the production price. The police prevented farmers from expressing their dissatisfaction by spilling out wheat in front of the government building warning them that the Communal Police will write them a ticket right away. Jan Husarik, president of the Association of Banat Farmers, told reporters that farmers will not set any deadline or ultimatums, but that they expect from the government representatives, Vucic in the first line, to receive them as soon as possible. Husarik underlined that this will be the last civilized protest, adding that for now they do not want to announce protests with agricultural machinery in order not to make problems for citizens and the state which is a difficult situation. He said that agricultural producers are not in favor of price increase of basic foods - bread, sugar and sunflower oil, but added that the position of farmers had to be improved so that they could afford these products for themselves.
