BELGRADE The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) believes the government reshuffle "will not bring more efficiency." Instead, this party compares it to "a shift of pieces rather than tactics during a game of chess which will end in a checkmate for the government. DSS: Shift in chess pieces, not tactics "The reshuffle cannot have an efficient result because it is not based on a plan, but on buying time so that the conditions set by the West in connection with the Brussels agreement can be met and so that Serbia would start EU accession talks in January," DSS deputy leader and MP Slobodan Samardzic told a news conference. Samardzic reiterated the DSS position that instead of a reshuffle, early elections should be called in order to change public policy. He said the DSS does not expect elections because the government has been given an ultimatum by Brussels and Berlin to convince Kosovo Serbs to vote in the local election in November, which he says is a condition Serbia must fulfill if it wants to start EU membership negotiations next January. Samardzic said elections are also necessary because of "the government's catastrophic results" during its first year in office and again stressed the party's opposition to the Brussels agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.
