BELGRADE Aleksandar Vucic says the government has displayed "full resolve" to battle corruption and organized crime, and that there was "zero tolerance." There is also "political will and a clear political goal, which was to eradicate corruption and crime," the deputy prime minister said on Friday in Belgrade. "Clear political goal to eradicate corruption and crime" "Regional cooperation between intelligence agencies, police forces and prosecutors has been raised to a higher level, and such cooperation makes all of the region's countries stronger and pushes the entire region forward," Vucic said at a meeting of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia. "The region is no longer a safe place for those involved in organized crime," he noted. "Zero tolerance and non-selective approach is applied in Serbia in the battle against corruption, and it is necessary for all security agencies to take part in this battle, because there can be no results without coordination," he said presenting the anti-corruption strategy. "We have adopted a national strategy and set very high standards, and I hope we will have the strength to accomplish what we set out to do in the strategy," Vucic remarked. "One of the priorities is to resolve the situation with 24 suspicious privatizations, so the people of Serbia could see that there is justice in the country, that it does not pay to steal from the country and that you have to answer for it sooner or later," he stated. According to the deputy prime minister, "115 persons have been charged," while the state suffered damages worth some RSD 80 billion. At the same time, those involved in corruption earned themselves unlawfully a total of some RSD 60 billion. Vucic listed data about the number of criminal charges, total losses caused to the state and profits gained through crime and stressed it was a good thing that 75 percent of the citizens thought the government was fighting a serious battle against corruption, because there had been objections that the battle was "selective."
