ST. PETERSBURG Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin met in St. Petersburg on Thursday. The two officials "agreed that relations between the two countries are better than ever." FM discusses Brussels deal with Russian deputy PM Rogozin showed interest in the implementation of the Brussels agreement, and Mrkic informed him about the latest developments in the Belgrade-Pristina talks on implementation, certain objective difficulties, and problems that are caused by other factors, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a release. Mrkic told Rogozin that as regards the Brussels agreement, Serbia will continue working toward the things that it accepted and will not concede to some “creative” interpretations that the other side is trying to impose. The Serbian foreign minister thanked Russia for its principled stand which makes it easier for Serbia to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Rogozin and Mrkic voiced mutual satisfaction about the strategic agreement between Serbia and Russia, which the presidents of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Tomislav Nikolic, signed in Moscow recently. Rogozin and Mrkic also discussed the pace of using the loan that Russia granted to Serbia. The officials concluded that there is no halt in that regard, and that everything is running according to the plan, the release adds. The Serbian minister is attending a conference on nuclear energy in 21st century that is being held in Saint Petersburg on June 27-28. The conference has brought together around 40 ministers of European, African, Latin American and Asian countries. They are discussing the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy for the production of electric energy. Addressing the conference on Thursday, Mrkic presented Serbia's stand that it is fully aware that, despite having some good sides, the exploitation of nuclear energy based on fission must be controlled in line with the adopted regulations and standards at global level. The authorities must focus on its safe impact on environment, so as to make sure that the accidents such were the ones at the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plants never repeat again, he warned.
