PRISTINA The appointment of Nenad Djuricas the first regional police commander for northern Kosovo has been confirmed. Djuric was formerly chief of the Zvecan police station. Twice-suspended KPS member appointed chief in north Kosovo's Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi confirmed to Tanjug Djuric had been appointed the regional commander in the predominantly Serb populated northern Kosovo. Djuric's appointment is another stage in the implementation of the agreement between Serbia's Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in Brussels on May 22. Djuric was born in Kosovska Mitrovica in 1976. He joined the Kosovo police (KPS) in 2003, but was fired in 2011, when he was the commander of the Zvecan police station, after refusing to obey the order from Pristina to seize all Serbian registration plates with initials of towns in Kosovo, issued by the MUP. According to the Albanian language media in Pristina, Djuric was previously suspended for allowing Serbian officials to stay in northern Kosovo "without the permission of the Kosovo government."
