BRUSSELS Catherine Ashton and Stefan Fule have sent a joint letter to EU members asking for a clear positive decision on the start of accession talks with Serbia. The EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, and the organization's enlargement commissioner sent the letter on Friday. Ashton and Fule ask for positive decision for Serbia The four-page document, which Tanjug news agency said it had seen, states that Belgrade and Pristina made significant progress in normalization of relations, which was the condition posed by the European Council in December in connection with Serbia's accession talks. The letter goes on to list the concrete steps taken in the implementation of the Brussels agreement, as well as the agreements the two sides reached in recent weeks. Tanjug reported that "in a key sentence at the very end of the letter," Ashton and Fule urge the Council to make "a very clear and positive decision on the start of accession talks with Serbia and the start of talks on the Stabilization and Association agreement with Kosovo." Sources in Brussels diplomatic circles believe the letter will be "very significant when the heads of state and government of EU member countries discuss Serbia's date on June 28 in Brussels," the news agency said.
