BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic met in Belgrade on Wednesday with Moroccan Minister for General Affairs and Governance Mohamed Najib Boulif. According to a statement from the president's office, they "agreed that Serbia's full-fledged membership in the EU is important not only for Serbia, but for the whole region." "EU membership vital for Serbia and region" Nikolic expressed satisfaction that Serbia and Morocco are renewing and strengthening their old friendship, the president's press office said in a release. "The previous government thought that starting talks with the EU means neglecting old friendships with Asian and African nations, members of the Non-Aligned Movement and former Soviet countries. After winning the election, we have changed our position towards the world and brought back old friendships," said Nikolic. We highly appreciate your positions when it comes to Arab countries. Sometimes these are not easy positions to hold, said Minister Boulif, who is the chairman of the Moroccan portion of the standing intergovernmental committee established by the two countries. He said the traditionally good relations between the two countries are grounded in shared positions on human rights and international relations. Boulif noted that cooperation agreements between Serbia and Morocco dating back 30 years need to be updated. He also said Serbia's position in the center of the Balkans and Eastern Europe and Morocco's as an African country with access to the Mediterranean Sea are a good foundation for cooperation between the two countries which are leaders in their regions.
