MOSCOW Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia wants the best possible cooperation with Russia. He added that Russian officials never had a problem with Serbia’s EU pathway. "Serbia wants best cooperation with Russia" “The important thing is that Serbia certainly is Russia’s ally. We are a military neutral country and we are not joining or participating in any pact. And I also think that it is very important that Russia can always count on Serbia as a friend,” Vucic told Voice of Russia. The first deputy PM is paying a two-day visit to Russia. He took part in an international security conference in Moscow on Thursday and he will today be a part of the Serbian delegation led by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic that will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi. Vucic said that it was up to Serbia and Russia to develop and improve their relations on rational and pragmatic basis. “I think it is very important for both countries. Primarily for Serbia as a much smaller country. But I think that it is also good for Russian citizens and Serbian citizens,” he explained. When asked to comment on meetings with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the upcoming meeting with Putin, the first deputy PM said that Serbia was a small county that needed to preserve its territory and try to have good relations with everyone. “We primarily want to protect what is ours. We have great friends in the Russian Federation. I have thanked them for giving us political support in preservation of Serbia’s territorial integrity and for their help in persuading many countries in the world not to accept the recognition of unilaterally declared independence of Pristina’s authorities,” Vucic concluded.
