BRUSSELS EU leaders agreed on Thursday to send an EU Civilian Common Security and Defense mission to Libya. The mission should help control the 4,300 kilometers of the north African country's borders. EU decides to send mission to Libya The mission, dubbed EUBAM Libya, will deploy next month, and will "support the Libyan authorities in enhancing the security" of the country's land, sea, and air borders. "EUBAM Libya is an important mission for Libya and the entire region, but also for the security of EU borders. The mission responds to a direct request from our Libyan partners and I'm pleased to say that it can now be deployed in June," said EU High Representative Catherine Ashton. The EU will set aside EUR 30mn in the first year to finance the mission which was first proposed after the overthrowal of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. (Tanjug, file) Tanjug
