BELGRADE Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic has been quoted as saying that the implementation of the Brussels agreement was "a very complex endeavor." The implementation of the agreement, which was accepted in Brussels on April 19, requires time, reason, vision and unwavering conviction that the best possible thing for the people is being done, Mrkic said. FM: Implementation of deal is "complex endeavor" In an interview published in the Tuesday issue of the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti, Mrkic voiced his conviction that Kosovo Serbs "would realize that the Brussels agreement would ensure a better and safer life for them with the backing of the state of Serbia and that this time they would withstand all challenges, grow stronger and stay in their homes." The Serbian foreign minister notes that since the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the relations in the region have never been better than they are now. Mrkic points out that the new government in Serbia, since taking office less than a year ago, offered umpteen concrete proofs that it wants to strengthen the ties with its neighbors. Moreover, he recalls that Serbia has signed around ten agreements, with 20 still in the works, which should be signed with neighboring countries. Mrkic notes that there are no more burning issues in the region, while the outstanding ones are being tackled in a daring way. He says that there are more and more signs that others realize the fact that Serbs also suffered a lot and were victims of the previous wars in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. "One need not underscore how important it would be for the strengthening of reconciliation process that certain political leaders of neighboring countries pay tribute to the innocent Serb victims, and there were many of them," Mrkic said.
