NEW YORK North Korea has removed two medium-range missiles from a launchpad in its east coast, indicating a reduction of tensions on the Korean peninsula. It was believed that Pyongyang was preparing to last month launch, for the first time, the Musudan missiles that have the range of 3,000 to 3,500 kilometers, after the country threatened attacks in the region. North Korea removes missiles from its east coast The threats came in the wake of the tightening of UN sanctions against North Korea in March this year, after it conducted a third nuclear test. The official Pyongyang was also outraged by the large-scale annual U.S.-South Korean military exercises which ended a week ago. The news that the rockets were removed from North Korea's east coast came ahead of Tuesday's meeting of the presidents of the U.S. and South Korea in Washington. South Korean President Park Guen Hye yesterday afternoon arrived on her first official visit to the U.S., where she has also met with former South Korean foreign minister, and current UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. "The secretary-general commended the president for her decisive but restrained response to recent provocative actions of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and strongly supported her determination to resolve inter-Korean differences through dialogue and confidence-building," said UN spokesman Martin Nesirki. Ban also expressed concern about the serious food problem in North Korea and expressed satisfaction at Seoul's willingness to assist in addressing the humanitarian situation of the North, added Nesirki, AP news agency reports.
