BELGRADE It still has not been specified what we need to do by June but we certainly have to start the implementation of the Brussels agreement. This is according to Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic. “Implementation of agreement must start by June” He announced that the Serbian team for the implementation of the agreement would go to Brussels on May 7 and that a new meeting with northern Kosovo Serbs would be held the same day. “It still has not been specified what we need to do by June but we certainly have to start the implementation. The question is when we will start it. You know, you get a draft implementation plan that has nothing to do with what it is written in the agreement. I do not know how they plan on doing it because what is written in the agreement needs to be implemented. The plan is a ‘non-paper’, it does not exist, it is an Albanian wish, just like many others that did not find their way into the agreement,” Vucic explained. He told Belgrade-based tabloid Alo that “we have all mechanisms of the world necessary to implement the Brussels agreement but we want to talk and reach an agreement with out own people”. “We have tight deadlines, time is running out and northern Kosovo Serbs need to know that the entire Serbia depends on their actions as well, not only on ours and we will not allow our chance of progress and modernization be ruined because of anyone’s indecisiveness,” the first deputy PM pointed out. According to him, everybody should be aware that the agreement has been signed, accepted and that it needs to be implemented. “People from the international community need to know that what has been signed will be implemented instead of what some wanted to be in the agreement but it is not. On the other hand, Serbs from the north, who are aware that the majority of citizens, political parties and those they trust the most are in favor of the agreement, will have to accept what has been signed and not what someone else would like to implement through the agreement,” Vucic was quoted as saying. He stressed that the northern Kosovo Serbs had first mentioned a referendum and that “they were surprised when I accepted it, so they withdrew, because they realized they could not win”. “Now they say they want an opinion of the Constitutional Court in order to get some more time. If the court decides in their favor, they will say that the court does not matter anymore and they will request elections and I will not back down there either,” the deputy PM pointed out. When asked what he would do if the Constitutional Court decided that the agreement was anti-Constitutional, he said: “We will respect every decision of the court but in that case we all would have to step down from our positions in the government because it would mean that we acted anti-constitutionally.” Aleksandar Vucic (Tanjug, file) Tanjug
