BELGRADE New Jat Airways Director Velibor Vukasinovic says the first thing to do will be the introduction of new aircraft to the fleet of the Serbian national airline. Vukasinovic, whom the government on Tuesday appointed to the position, told the Belgrade-based daily Blic that he was aware that he had taken on "a hot potato," but that he accepted the job "because there is a clear resolve in the government to solve the Jat problem." Jat's potential partner "considering perspectives" "It is important that a lock has not been put on Jat. My task will be to enable a fleet to achieve the business plan adopted for 2013," he was quoted as saying. The plan includes a renewal of the fleet, the new Jat Airways chief explained, noting that it was still unknown when the four leased Airbus aircraft would be introduced. "I have not had access to the plans for the introduction of new aircraft to the fleet. I did not receive them, but it will be the first thing I will do in the coming days," said Vukasinovic. Commenting on the potential partnership with Etihad from Abu Dhabi, he said that this company was currently "considering the perspectives of their strategic alliance with us," and that talks on "what suits them and what suits us" would start afterwards. "I would not be paying a lot of attention to that for now, it will take its course, and we find it much more important to finish the upcoming season successfully," he stated. Vukasinovic also said there changes would likely be introduced to the recently announced "social program" that aims to reduce the number of Jat Airways employees by about 400 people.
