“Last obstacle on EU pathway removed”

BELGRADE Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on Wednesday in Belgrade. Eide stressed that Norway supported Serbia’s EU pathway, adding that an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina had removed the last big obstacle on the road toward the Union. “Last obstacle on EU pathway removed” He added that it will open possibilities for new investments. “Even though Norway is not a member of the EU, it strongly supports Serbia’s EU pathway,” the Norwegian minister stressed. “We work very closely with EU countries because we are a part of a single market, Schengen zone and a signatory of many agreements with the EU. We think that it is very important that Serbia is a part of the enlarged, integrated Europe,” he noted. According to him, “the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina that was initialed last week in Brussels removed the last obstacle on the road” which will have a “quick and tangible effect on Serbia’s EU integration and new investments”. “We have been trying to help in many important moments in Serbian history, we encourage other investors, we have a significant bilateral cooperation and we have been trying to be helpful in the process of reaching an agreement with Pristina which is very important for Serbia’s future,” Eide stressed. He added that Norwegian investments in Serbia were significant and that he expected them to grow even further. “Many Norwegian companies are interested in investing in Serbia but while there was uncertainty regarding Serbia’s political future and its position in the international institutions, they were indecisive,” Eide explained. Vucic thanked the Norwegian minister for his country’s support, stressing that Serbia should use the moment to start a new era of relations with many European and world countries. “This government’s goal is improve political dialogue and cooperation in all other areas, especially in the economy,” the Serbian government’s Media Office has released. “We want to create a safe business environment in order to attract investors,” Vucic said and added that cooperation between Serbia and Norway in international military missions would continue.
