BELGRADE Government’s Office for Kosovo Director Aleksandar Vulin has announced he will resign today, noting he is dissatisfied with the Belgrade-Pristina agreement. The agreement was initialed in Brussels on Friday. Office for Kosovo head announces resignation “I have to resign as the Office for Kosovo director, today before Serbia and people and tomorrow before the government, before First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic and PM Ivica Dacic,” Vulin said late on Tuesday. He said that he was against the initialing of the Brussels agreement. “Aleksandar Vucic has stated that I will be a part of the team that will run the country. I told him neither no nor yes. But I will have to disappoint him because I will say no,” Vulin explained. “Until Aleksandar Vucic came to our team, a decision was not made. He took the biggest responsibility because he loves Serbia. It is not logical to advocate something and when it does not go through you say ‘it does not matter, it did not go through’,” he said and stressed that he would resign for two reasons. According to him, the first reason is that he wants to show how important it is to accept the proposal he gave to his coalition partners – to hold a referendum in order to achieve unity among people. He noted that the second reason was the most important to him – that he had given his word to Kosovo Serbs that the agreement would be different. “I gave my word to Kosovo Serbs that the agreement would be different and that I will manage to do what may be impossible,” Vulin said and added that he fully supported Kosovo Serbs’ request to call a referendum on the Belgrade-Pristina agreement. When asked if the team could have done a better job in the negotiations, he said that he did not know. “What we accepted is a miracle compared to what we were first offered but it is not good enough. I think our people deserve more,” Vulin stressed. A team for the implementation of the agreement should hold its first session today.
