“Serb municipalities should be modeled after South Tyrol”

BELGRADE The issue if a community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo could be modeled after Austrians’ autonomy in South Tyrol or Swedes in the Aland Islands. This is according to Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg. “Serb municipalities should be modeled after South Tyrol” He told daily Vecernje novosti that great progress had been made in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, noting that it was slow but that committment of both sides ave reason for hope. Schwarzenberg also believes that full normalization of relations was possible after long time. “It will not happen so fast because there are very deep traumas in this case that cannot be overcome in just a few years,” he explained. Commenting on conditions offered to Serbia, that First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic said “leave not even a one-percent chance“, the Czech foreign minister said that Germans had lost Silesia and Eastern Pomerania after WWII. “It took them 40 years to accept it. So, it takes time,” he was quoted as saying. When asked if the Serb community in Kosovo was entitled to a greater autonomous status, Schwarzenberg said that the original Ahtisaari plan envisaged something like that.
