BELGRADE Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) deputy leader Dijana Vukomanovic says she is optimistic about an agreement on Kosovo. She added that the EU expected First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic to be more actively involved in the negotiations. “Fist deputy PM should take part in dialogue” Vukomanovic said that together with other members of the parliamentary European Integrations Committee she had met with MEPs and that European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin expected Vucic to meet with Kosovo Deputy PM Slobodan Petrovic and be more actively involved in the negotiations. She told RTS that the dialogue was “worth the effort” and that Serbia’s diplomatic activities had been stepped up. The SPS official said that the dialogue was at an important stage and that PM Ivica Dacic would get a favorable deal in accordance with the Resolution on Kosovo that had been adopted by the Serbian parliament. She noted that key negotiators were Dacic and Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci with the mediation of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and the U.S. “The paper was already on the table,” she said and added that the main goal was to secure survival of 130,000-150,000 Serbs in Kosovo who needed help so they could stay in Kosovo. “A key problem is trust,” Vukomanovic said, stressing that Serbia insisted on “our courts, our police chiefs” and that a “red line that will not be crossed” was well-known. She explained that something that “has not existed in Kosovo is being tested on paper and that is the third level of authority that will be exclusively granted to the Serb community”. “We insist on the term (community) while Albanians say ‘association’,” she said and added that it was about “whether we will accept only a level of the local self-government or if we will request some executive powers”. Commenting on the ruling coalition, she said that she had not heard any serious complaint from the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) that would make Dacic give his PM seat to Vucic.
