BELGRADE The PTT Museum in Belgrade has organized an exhibition to mark 130 years since the first telephone line was established in our country. This means that only seven years after Alexander Bell patented his invention, the technological miracle of its time was introduced in Serbia. Serbia marks 130 years of telephony on its soil The credit goes to Pantelejmon Mihajlovic - who installed the first line, and was an enthusiastic promoter of the technology. On March 14, 1883, Mihajlovic - nicknamed Panta - connected the Geographical Department of the Defense Ministry - located on the first floor of the Tree Tobacco Leaves building in Belgrade, with the engineering barracks located opposite the Botanical Gardens. Defense Minister Tihomilj Nikolic and Captain Kosta Radosavljevic then had the honor to conduct the first telephone conversation in Serbia. The exhibition illustrates the history of the development of telephone traffic, while the exhibits have been organized in groups: from induction and automatic, to satellite, wireless and cell phones. PTT Srbija (Post Serbia) Director Milan Krkobabic was there for the opening of the exhibition, stressing that it proved proof that this public company has been the leader in the country's technological development for over a century. The exhibition will be open through May 20, while on March 14 and 15, as part of the Night of the Museums event, it will be open until midnight, with free admission.
