BELGRADE Water started to withdraw from the flooded Pcinjski District in southern Serbia on Wednesday morning and the situation is slowly returning to normal. The floods in the district have been caused by heavy rainfall and local rivers that burst their banks. Situation in flooded parts of Serbia improves The state of emergency is expected to be lifted today in the Trgoviste municipality. Trgoviste assembly speaker Nenad Krstic has said that the situation is slowly returning to normal. “We will lift the state of emergency during the day, there is no more need. A bridge has collapsed but the most important thing is that water is quickly withdrawing,” he explained. The water level of the Kozjodolska River and its tributary rivers is dropping and damage will today be assessed. Krstic said households suffered great damage but that there were no casualties unlike last year when two people lost their lives. The Pcinjski District Emergency Situation Department Head Dragca Stanojkovic has said that the situation has stabilized. He added that new amounts of food and medicines would arrive to the area today thanks to the Red Cross and that drinking water would also be provided to the population.
