BELGRADE Serbian Agriculture Minister Goran Knezevic has once again assured the public that milk available in stores in Serbia is completely safe to consume. He added that inspectors had not found samples with increased levels of aflatoxin during extraordinary controls at farms and cattle feed factories. Milk completely safe to consume, minister reiterates “The most important thing at the moment is that milk is safe to consume,” Knezevic told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) on Sunday morning. He added that all measures aimed at preventing possible contaminated feed from being given to cattle had been taken immediately after the aflatoxin affair broke out. “We are performing extraordinary controls at large farms and cattle fodder producers and I can say with great pleasure that we have not found samples that contain aflatoxin levels higher than standard so far,” Knezevic pointed out. He explained that the Agriculture Ministry would distribute fixators to dairies that would help eliminate certain toxins from cattle’s system. The minister added that results of a superanalysis in the Netherlands were expected soon. According to him, milk producers, dairies and citizens suffered great damage thanks to the information that milk products contained increased amounts of cancerous aflatoxin.
