Democrats call on agriculture minister to resign

BELGRADE The Democratic Party (DS) has called on Agriculture Minister Goran Knezevic to resign “because he withheld information about contaminated milk”. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), on the other hand, said that DS leader and Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas should resign for “intentionally destroying Serbian farmers”. Democrats call on agriculture minister to resign Djilas believes that the minister has directly jeopardized citizens’ health, especially health of their children. “By taking milk off shelves the minister has admitted that it was not good and announcements that corn from the commodity reserves to farmers should have been made several weeks ago,” he said. The DS leader also believes that the Agriculture Ministry’s measures are overdue and inadequate. He added that the minister and the Agriculture Ministry were avoiding responsibility and trying to shift the blame by accusing the DS of releasing the information they had kept from the citizens. The SNS has stated that the government had taken all measures necessary to protect the health of citizens and called on Djilas to resign “because of criminal political actions and enormous wealth and irresponsible and harmful behavior”.
