MOSCOW The Moscow Patriarchate would like the new pope to continue policies of Pope Benedict XVI, Religion News Service has reported. Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Hilarion Alfeyev said that the two churches’ relations had been positive in the last several years. “New pope should continue Benedict XVI’s policy” “Pope Benedict is a man who protects interests of his church and he was a traditionalist, in a good sense of the word, who kept the church tradition,” he added. He (Pope Benedict XVI) did not enjoy popularity in media like his predecessor John Paul II, reads the release of the Moscow Patriarchate. “We hope that his successor will continue down the road of protection of traditional Christian values of theological and moral teachings,” Alfeyev said. The metropolitan noted that examples of “bleeding moral” in Europe were legalization of homosexual relationships and undermining of family values. “The Orthodoxy has the same position as the Catholic Church, this is why the two churches are allies and these relations should continue and develop during the time of the new pope,” reads the release.
