He said that the presidency of the UN General Assembly clearly has a powerful magnetism which should be utilized in making contacts with people whose word is respected in the world. "For the next two days we will discuss international challenges, the most pressing problems in the world, the way in which the UN could respond to these challenges and how Serbia, through its presidency, may contribute to the solutions," Jeremic explained. "The fact that such figures are in the High Council says that Serbia, despite the difficulties it faces, has a certain prestige and respect in the world," he noted. Jeremic added that the Council had started its meetings by reviewing the situation in Mali, after which they would turn to sustainable development, Syria, UN reforms, and international justice. "This is the first meeting, there will be more, and I hope that the result of our joint work will be a strategy paper which Serbia will present to the UN General Assembly in the last week of its presidency," concluded Jeremic.
