BELGRADE Ivica Dacic has said that it would be "very detrimental for the dialogue with Pristina" if Serbia does not get a date for the start of its EU accession talks. Dacic spoke for Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti daily ahead of his trip to Brussels, where he will meet with EU's Catherine Ashton, and later with Hashim Thaci as the Kosovo dialogue continues. "Dialogue will suffer if EU doesn't give Serbia date" "Practically, that would kill the dialogue. Nobody can expect to find a solution overnight for the problems that are several centuries old, because we are now talking about status issues," according to him. The prime minister believes that the question of whether early parliamentary elections can be expected in Serbia in case the EU decides not to grant the country a date is "irrelevant": "That is an irrelevant topic. Elections are irrelevant and I've had enough of that story. While we are defending the state interests abroad, somebody has constantly been referring to elections. They will happen when the ruling coalition decides so, or we will go to the polls in the regular term." Addressing appeals on him to step down over his Kosovo policy, Dacic said it was "hypocritical to call on somebody to resign" - because, he explained, a resignation was "a personal matter". Instead, the prime minister advised his critics to ask for him to be relieved of his duties, in line with the Constitution and the laws. Dacic once again said that the upcoming round of the dialogue would be "the most difficult", and that he was entering the process "with a concrete plan for an association of Serb municipalities to be established". According to him, this association would have "clear jurisdiction" when it came to education and justice "in the first and second degree", while the police "would maintain ties both with Pristina and Belgrade". According to Dacic, Serbia "will not recognize Kosovo, and it will not dismantle its institutions there" - until it sees whether the association of Serb communities will be allowed to be established. Dacic also expressed his confidence that "the state organs will do their job properly" when it came to the security of the government aircraft, noting that it had been agreed to change the manner in which the plane was secured in the wake of recent reports about plans to sabotage it.
