BELGRADE Early parliamentary elections would be a catastrophe for Serbia, Construction Minister Velimir Ilic told daily Vecernje novosti. He added that no investor would invest their money if new elections were in sight and if reorganization of the political scene was expected. Early elections would be “catastrophic” "The Construction Ministry has contracted, or is close to contracting, projects worth EUR 1.5bn. Going to the polls would "take" most of the money to some other markets. The contracted billions, which are now within reach for agriculture, energy, railways, would be scattered," Ilic pointed out. According to the minister, no one in the government would fall for "the trial balloon" coming from "certain opposition centers." "Those who lost the elections have to wait for the new ones. When the time for this comes," Ilic said. Asked if this means that he totally excludes the possibility that the initiated affairs will result in new elections soon, he said: "Of course not." "However, the Serbian government is united and stable at this moment, and there is really no reason to go to the polls. This government has only worked for six months now. If elections are mentioned after such a short period, than this tells the world that we are incompetent, do not know how to organize ourselves, and that we are not a serious country," he concluded.
