BELGRADE A Serbian government deputy PM has said that "a chair for Kosovo" in the UN "is not a condition for Serbia's continued EU integration. Speaking for B92 on Thursday, Suzana Grubjesic asserted that a statement on that subject made by Germany's ambassador in Belgrade "was not interpreted well". "German ambassador was not interpreted well" Grubjesic, who is in charge of EU integrations, also said that she "did not know" if this issue could be opened, and that "now, only a date (for the start of EU membership negotiations) is being talked about". "Perhaps something else will appear once we start the negotiations," said she, and noted that "we don't have such power to block somebody from joining the UN, it isn't exactly the case that we can do everything to block somebody, but we do have the assistance of Russia and China." Grubjesic went on to say that "visible progress" had been made in the EU-sponsored dialogue with Pristina, and that "it now needs to be sustainable", adding that "there are no new conditions". "June is realistic for getting a date, that's what the ministers of all 27 countries have said, the chance is great under the condition that the dialogue is being implemented," she stated, and added: "The government is conducting internal and foreign policies, everybody says this policy is good, that's what those who deal with us are saying, there has been progress toward the EU, and that's why (getting) a date is realistic."
