Daily: Controversial monument to be removed soon A deadline the state of Serbia gave to the local authorities to remove the monument honoring members of the so-called Liberation Army of Presevo, Medvedja, and Bujanovac (UCPMB) expired on January 16. Political leaders of ethnic Albanians decided that they would not remove the monument and the Presevo municipal assembly “legalized” the terror group memorial at an emergency session. According to Blic, the monument could be removed today or tomorrow. “Vucic was waiting for Dacic to return from Brussels, from a meeting with European officials in order to reach an agreement on the removal of the monument to terrorists in southern Serbia and everything will be known this weekend,” a source told the daily. The source added that both Dacic and Vucic had said several times that the monument in downtown Presevo was “unacceptable”. Telegraf.rs writes that Gendarmerie units have been sent to Presevo and that they are stationed near the controversial monument. “Everything is ready for the implementation of the state’s decision. However, details of the operation are kept secret so that only top state officials know when and how the operation will be carried out,” a well-informed source told the news outlet.
