He added that good relations between Belgrade and Zagreb were not important just for the two countries but for the entire region. “We are here to see if we can do any better than that. Politics is not just about reason, it is about sense too. There is nothing new in our relations other than the fact that we have lost half a year,” the Croatian PM said in Belgrade on Wednesday. Croatia's Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic stated that Milanovic’s visit was a good, rational and useful step forward in relations with Serbia and in taking over the responsibility to run the region. She told reporters ahead of the government session that she expected new contacts with the Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic, bearing in mind that they had agreed to discuss cross-border projects that could be financed from European funds. The media also reported Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic’s statement that the two countries’ presidents should have met first. The Croatian media especially stressed that Nikolic wondered if Milanovic’s visit was “truly friendly”. Zagreb-based daily Jutarnji list writes that the Serbian president made the statements because he was not involved in the organizing of the Croatian PM’s visit. The daily states that the future relations between Belgrade and Zagreb would depend more on the prime ministers’ cooperation than on the presidents, as it was the case before.
