U.S. magazine Foreign Policy has named Russian President Vladimir Putin the world's most influential figure in 2012.

MOSCOW U.S. magazine Foreign Policy has named Russian President Vladimir Putin the world's most influential figure in 2012. Putin actually ranked second but the magazine decided to leave the first spot blank this year. Putin named world’s most powerful person The authors explained that the first spot in the rankings was intentionally left empty because "everyone is waiting for someone else to shoulder responsibility for the world's toughest and most dangerous challenges." U.S. Federal Reserve Head Ben Bernanke came in third, followed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the fourth and U.S. President Barack Obama in the fifth place. European Central Bank Chairman Mario Draghi, Chinese Communist Party Secretary General Xi Jinping, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde and Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abd al-Aziz took the remaining places on the list.
