MADRID Two of the largest parties in Spain's northern region of Catalonia agreed an alliance Tuesday that aims to pave the way for a referendum in 2014 on secession. Spokespersons of the Convergence and Union (CiU) and the Republican Left (ERC) told reporters on Tuesday that the two parties had agreed to call the referendum in 2014.
