BELGRADE The Serbian police (MUP) Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) on Thursday marked its day in a ceremony held at the Batajnica base near Belgrade. The ceremony, marking 34 years since the unit was founded, was attended by both President Tomislav Nikolic and PM Ivica Dacic, who also serves as interior minister. President recognized for "contribution" to police The unit presented the president with a plaque for his "great contribution and support to the Serbian police". SAJ commanders expressed their satisfaction with the launch of the anti-corruption campaign, and gave full support to President Nikolic and the Serbian government in this respect. Nikolic congratulated the unit on its achievements in serving the country and wished it "much success in fulfilling its assignments", the president's press service said. Ivica Dacic also extended his congratulations to the unit, noting that Serbia "will be respected again once it is strong - and that takes strong army and police". "It is the desire of the Serbian government that there should never again be conflicts, and for the Serbian citizens to live in peace, prosperity and safety," he noted in his address. "For that reason we who are leading the country now must be aware of our responsibility and do all that is the best for our people and our state no matter how difficult and painful in order not to repeat the tragedies of the past," said Dacic. The ceremony in Batajnica today was also attended by high ranking police officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Princess Jelisaveta Karadjordjevic, and other guests. (Beta) Tanjug
