"EU to explore all ways to assist Syrian opposition"

BRUSSELS European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has said that the EU will explore all possibilities to support the Syrian opposition and assist it. He added that the EU would try to provide more support in the protection of Syrian civilians. "EU to explore all ways to assist Syrian opposition" "We support the future of Syria that is democratic, and we will support in full respect of human and minority rights in the country," said Van Rompuy, in a statement issued after a summit of EU leaders on Friday in Brussels. Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Van Rompuy added that all leaders were in agreement in their intention to support "the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people" - the opposition National Coalition, made up of opposition and rebel forces. The EU leaders also "instructed their foreign ministers to explore all the possibilities of assisting the Syrian rebels".
