KOSTOLAC Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic on Tuesday rebuked those responsible for keeping the country's roads clear of snow. As road maintenance companies are endeavoring to cope with the cold wave and heavy snowfall, the prime minister took a trip from Belgrade to Kostolac in the east, and concluded that those efforts have been unsuccessful "for days". Unhappy with road conditions, PM recollects Thaci meeting "If I could meet with (Hashim) Thaci, you can clear the snow," Dacic advised them. The trip today, he noted, convinced him that the roads "have not been cleared at all". "The citizens cannot be the victim of somebody's negligence, Serbia must have electricity and gas, and roads must be cleared. We're not in Siberia," the prime minister was also quoted as saying. According to him, the authorities did not react in a timely fashion when the snow started to fall: "Decisions must be made quickly. If I could meet with Thaci and we could reach a decision, the rest of this is less painful. And for that reason, anyone who does not react in time and make the right decision, will be replaced." That, Dacic asserted, included the minister of transport - Milutin Mrkonjic. Meanwhile, the snow is set to continue in Serbia throughout the night. MUP Emergency Sector chief Pregrag Matic commented on the situation by saying: "The first snowfall of the season always catches road maintenance (companies) by surprise. That's just the way it is."
