OSLO Europe will emerge stronger from its current crisis to again symbolize hope, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said Sunday in Oslo. The EU leaders will receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Monday. "EU will symbolize hope again" “We want Europe to become again a symbol of hope," Van Rompuy added. Around 20 EU leaders are expected in Oslo on Monday, including French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Monday's award for turning a continent at war into a continent at peace comes at a testing time for the 27-nation union, unable to stand united to collect the prize as it struggles to weather its worst crisis in 60 years. Half a dozen EU leaders, including Britain's PM David Cameron, are snubbing an event held even as the union prepares to enlarge by embracing Croatia as its 28th member next year, AFP has reported. A part of the public sees the EU as a "bureaucratic monster”. The award comes however as the EU seeks a way out of the disarray left by yet another year of economic crisis and political infighting. The award will be presented in Norway which refused to join the EU twice. Herman Van Rompuy (Tanjug, file) Beta
