BRUSSELS, BELGRADE EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule hopes that the European Council will next week “show courage” in decision making when it comes to Serbia’s EU pathway. He told daily Vecernje novosti that the decision was now in the hands of the EU member states. Serbia needs our support, enlargement commissioner says “I suppose and I hope that, as a result of what Serbia has fulfilled from the membership criteria and in successful and productive three rounds of the political dialogue, the member states will be as ambitious as Serbia in defense of your country’s future European step,” Fule said. He, however, did not say whether Serbia would get a date for the beginning of the EU talks or just a commendation for its efforts on December 10 in Brussels. “This means that certain obligations need to be fulfilled and not only accepted. I would also like to repeat that there are no easy topics in the political dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” Fule said and added that the technical agreement on the integrated crossings management “is not easy”. “Serbia needs our support. It is also important for the government to understand that decisions that are being made are in the favor of Serbia, Serbian citizens and the whole region,” he was quoted as saying.
