BELGRADE The Serbian government has an irresponsible, two-faced attitude toward Kosovo Serbs, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic told B92. The Serbian government has rejected an LDP’s amendment to the draft budget which envisages that the State Audit Institution (DRI) perform an audit of budget funds spent for Kosovo. “Govt. has irresponsible attitude toward K. Serbs” “The draft budget does not show how much money exactly is appropriated for the health system, education system and other needs of Kosovo Serbs which opens the door to nontransparent spending,” Jovanovic warned. “I do not see what is wrong with it. The government has drafted a hypocritical budget. At the same time, it is very irresponsible and two-faced toward Serbs in Kosovo. While it supports forming of an Inquiry Committee that will investigate the spending in the past, it does not want to change a system that is the main cause of abuses that many have mentioned until now. How is it possible then that soup kitchens do not have enough funds to work normally if we have been allocating USD 500mn for Kosovo,” he wondered. The authorities believe that the money will be responsibly spent, claiming that the previous government is responsible for abuses in the past. B92’s investigative program Insider revealed numerous abuses of funds allocated for Kosovo in its latest series dubbed “Patriotic Pillage”.
