Ethnic Abanians from southern Serbia on Tuesday marked the Albanian national holiday Flag Day and the 100th anniversary of the country's creation.

BUJANOVAC Ethnic Abanians from southern Serbia on Tuesday marked the Albanian national holiday Flag Day and the 100th anniversary of the country's creation. "No incidents were reported," Tanjug news agency said. Ethnic Albanians in south mark Albanian Flag Day The gathering on the central town square in Bujanovac included a salute to Albania from students who formed the number 100 and sang a song dedicated to Albania. The students, who had a day off from school today, came mostly from Trnovac, the home village of Ridvan Cazimi Lesi, a commander of the terrorist group "Liberation Army of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja (UCPMB)". An Albanian flag was then unfurled on the Bujanovac municipal hall to applause from the crowd of about 1,000 people, according to police estimates, and Mayor Nagip Arifi wished the people a happy holiday, stressing the celebration had passed without incidents. Serbian flags on state institutions were wrapped around their masts. Several billboards in the towns displayed holiday messages in Albanian and the Albanian National Council put up an Albanian flag in front of its offices. Albanian folk music and songs about Albania played at the main square, along with songs glorifying the fight of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA, UCK). The square also boasted a replica of the house in Vlore where the Albanian Declaration of Independence was proclaimed on November 28, 1912. This year, the celebrations took place a day early so that leaders of Albanian parties in southern Serbia could take part in the central celebration in Tirana.
