BELGRADE Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic has criticized PM Ivica Dacic and Serbian Patriarch Irinej’s statements about Kosovo and the EU. “The patriarch and prime minister do not understand the country in which they want to be authority figures or the world and the time the country is in, or the reasons of our decade-long decline,” he said in a release. LDP leader criticizes PM, patriarch “It is neither true that the European orientation would mean dismemberment of Serbia nor is the prime minister right when he says that we will lose Kosovo even if we give up on Europe,” he explained. He added that one should not be fooled into thinking that “constant repeating of phrases about Europe and Kosovo will preserve Kosovo”. “The recipe for fatality, that both patriarch and PM repeated today each in his own was, destroyed us in the past when we cut ourselves off from the world in the beginning of the 90s and then looked away completely and abandoned Serbs across the former Yugoslavia when Milosevic started an allegedly different policy for a short time but on similar foundations that Dacic is imposing on the society today,” Jovanovic said. He stressed that Serbia needed to define its political goal and a way means it would use to achieve it. “Serbia will become a state once it is capable of understanding Europe, once its mechanisms are capable of solving problems with people who live around us and becomes an efficient defender of rights of Kosovo Serbs through a political agreement with Pristina, as a credible partner with a certain EU membership perspective and once it finally ensures safe future in the whole region through alliance with the EU and NATO,” the LDP leader concluded.
