BELGRADE Serbian Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said Sunday that the Armistice Day celebration was an act to guard the honor of Serbia'd WW1 dead. However, noted Dacic, that period should also serve as a lesson on how to act in peacetime to secure Serbia's national interest. PM: Honor to victims, lessons for future “The First World War was a time when Serbia suffered its biggest losses in history, but perhaps also claimed its biggest victory. Serbia fought together with the victorious allied forces heroically, bringing us a victory of historic significance,” the prime minister told reporters in Belgrade on Sunday. He took part in the ceremonies at the Crypt of the Defenders of Belgrade at the New Cemetery. Dacic also noted that he was "not sure that the decisions made after the war actually promoted national and state interests of Serbia, especially given the way the new state of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes had been created". “It was one of the causes of all subsequent events and of the inner dissent in Yugoslavia. The First World War, therefore, should serve as a big lesson about what we should in peace. We had enough of winning wars while losing in peacetime,” Dacic said. The Serbian prime minister added that Sunday was the first time Serbia commemorated Armistice Day, which made it a party in the traditional celebration of the holiday observed “across Europe and the world".
