BELGRADE The Higher Court in Belgrade has remanded Pavle Miljkovic and Zoran Janjusevic in custody for 30 days and ordered an investigation against them. Miljkovic, a director of Cargo Logistics Center – Shipyard Belgrade and Janjusevic, a special advisor in the company, are suspected of incurring damages worth EUR 800,000 to the firm. Ex-official remanded in custody for abuse of office An investigative judge has decided to launch the investigation against the suspects after the hearing. Higher Court in Belgrade’s Spokeswoman Dusica Ristic has said that they were remanded in custody due to concern that they could influence witnesses. The police arrested Miljkovic and Janjusevic on November 1 on suspicion of abuse of office. Miljkovic is suspected of giving orders to the company’s financial officers to approve payments for the work done on Janjusevic’s house in Belgrade from January 1, 2006 until January 1, 2010. Former Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic formed a Council for National Security after the Special Operations Unit (JSO) mutiny and appointed Janjusevic as the Council’s member. Janjusevic therefore became a liaison between the Security Information Agency (BIA) and the government. Janjusevic was also a director of the Port of Belgrade during the company’s bankruptcy and Djindjic’s advisor. B92’s investigative program Insider revealed his role in the sale of the Shipyard Belgrade in its series dubbed Abuse of Office three and a half years ago. Janjusevic was sentenced to 20 months probation and fined with RSD 800,000 for tax evasion in 2007. He claimed that the proceeding as well as the verdict was “political”. In December of 2010, the Higher Court in Belgrade stopped an investigation against Janjusevic, Nemanja Kolesar and two more suspects for abuse of office during the privatization of Novi Popovac cement factory. They were suspected of using their business and political influence to declare the offer of Breitenburger company as the best offer in a tender that was called in 2001. The company bought the cement factory for USD 52mn in January 2002. Zoran Janjusevic (file) Tanjug
